"I wanted you to know that I just received mail from my daughter.  She reports that she having a great time and loves the horseback riding.

Thanks for providing such a wonderful experience for the campers for all that you have done for us." Mom, Session 2

"My son has never been to camp before, and your facility is about 500 miles from our home, so he was feeling pretty homesick the first day or so. One day when he was feeling especially homesick and wanted to come home, Biff took his aside and talked and prayed with him. He even gifted (Him) with his own personal copy of a study Bible so that he could read it and find some peace and comfort. I plan to send Biff a thank you card, but wanted to share this with you so that you would know how special your staff members truly are. (He) never told me any details on what he and Biff talked about, but he was very touched by the gift and has continued to read the study Bible. He came home a different child and I have Biff and all the rest of the staff at CIS to thank for it. I would also like to mention that I was incredibly impressed with the way everything was so organized at sign-in and out times. You guys really have it together. Thank you all."

YMCA camp employees will never be alone with a camper.

YMCA staff may not initiate or accept supervisory responsibility with YMCA members and participants outside approved YMCA activities and programs.

All minors will be supervised while utilizing the buddy system for restroom and shower times.

The YMCA discourages all outside contact between camp staff and participants including the use of e-mail and on line forums and chat rooms.

YMCA Camp Facts

  • Pioneered in this country by the YMCAs, resident camps began in 1885 and are still among the best proving grounds for kids.
  • YMCAs today are collectively one of the nation’s largest providers of camping programs with 265 resident camps and nearly 2,000 day camps across the country including 120 specialty camps for kids with disabilities.
  • The YMCAs serve nearly 400,000 youngsters and families each year through their resident camping programs. Another 600,000 enroll in YMCA day camps annually.
  • YMCAs employ nearly 12,000 teenagers each year as lifeguards and camp counselors.

YMCA Camp Strengths

  • Day and resident camping are cornerstone YMCA programs, building character and memories in such effective ways that key YMCA volunteers often point back to their Y camp experiences as their emotional tie to the Y today.
  • Kids love the imagination and adventure opportunities afforded by the great outdoors.  Camp is a chance to bring simplicity back to our lives and to connect with nature.  Mom said it best when she said, “Go outside and play!”
  • YMCA camps honor American history and American traditions by taking kids back to the “country,” sleeping in a “cabins,” and eating Western-style “pioneer” meals.
  • YMCA camps offer safe, fun environments, a place for kids to belong and memories to last a lifetime.
  • Camp is not only about the fun activities, but also about the chance to bond with other children.  It is also a place for kids to meet role models and future mentors among the college-age staff.
