Summer 2008 Dates & Rates

What the heck is an LIT?


Building on the tradition of "super" Leadership, the YMCA believes in growing our own future leaders as well as enhancing our teen populations skill base while at camp. LIT's (Leaders-In Training) are for teens (14 and up) who are ready for testing their leadership skills and expanding their knowledge while working with younger campers. This program is not intended for past campers who want privileges.

Our tradition of growing leaders continues. The YMCA utilizes as a central focus the book "Learning Leadership" by Michael Brandwein (a renowned camping and teen expert). LITs may count towards your high school community service hours for graduation.

LITs may also attend our Weekend Camps at an extra fee and participate in exciting adventures in and around the "Forgotten Coast."


All LIT's must be 14 years of age at camp time, demonstrate a greater interest in working with younger campers, demonstrate the YMCA's core values, have a service mentality, and strong desire to learn and grow leadership skills.

 

1st Year LITs
A 1st Year LIT is a person who has not attended camp before as an LIT. They have not attended any training event prior to camp. 1st Year LITs traditionally attend for two consecutive camper session. There is a reduced fee to participate in this program. LIT's advance to 2nd year upon recommendation from the LIT Support Staff. Click here for LIT Summer 2008 dates and rates.

2nd Year LITs

A 2nd Year LIT is a person who has been an LIT before and as been recommend to advance by the LIT Support Staff. They must be 14 years of age and invited to participate in the program. They may also attend one of our volunteer events prior to summer camp at YMCA Camp Indian Springs. 2nd Year LITs traditionally attend for two consecutive camper session. 3rd Year LITs

A 3rd Year LIT is a person who has graduated from the LIT program, has a recommendation from a member of our support staff, fills out a job application, undergoes a staff interview, demonstrates exceptional skills in our LIT program, and be at least 16 years of age. 3rd Year LITs attend for four camper consecutive sessions. There is no fee to participate in this program. LIT 3 Application.


All potential LITs must, in addition to submitting a completed registration form, submit in written form why they want to be a YMCA Leader and what they think leadership does and involves.



It is our goal, to help develop our future leaders

with this ever changing program.

2008 Dates & Rates

LIT Session A              Sunday, June 1 to Friday, June 13

LITs must go home between these sessions on Thursday, June 5 to Sunday, June 8

LITs must be 14 years of age to participate

LIT YMCA Members Pay $273.90

LIT Non Members Pay $330.00

Our tradition of growing leaders continues. This year we will once again focus on more of "Learning Leadership" skills from the same titled program by Michael Brandwein (a renowned camping and teen expert). Sessions are two weeks long to accommodate more NEW leaders and demand. So sessions are combined into Session 1 & 2, Session 3 & 4, Session 5 & 6, and Session 7 & 8. In order to promote leadership, fees are about half the cost of a regular camper session. LIT's must be 14 years of age at camp time, demonstrate a greater interest in working with younger campers, have a service mentality, and strong desire to learn and grow leadership skills.

LIT Weekend Camp I              Friday, June 13 to Sunday, June 15

Weekend Program For Campers entering 5th to 12th Grade

LIT YMCA Members Pay $80.93

LIT Non Members Pay $97.50

Begin your LIT Session B early by starting out with a weekend camp or stay a few extra days after LIT Session A by attending this LIT weekend Camp.

THIS SESSION IS FULL

 

 

LIT Session B              Sunday, June 15 to Friday, June 27

LITs must go home between these sessions or choose the Weekend Camp program.

LITs must be 14 years of age to participate

LIT YMCA Members Pay $362.71 (Total cost including Weekend Camp is $443.64)

LIT Non Members Pay $437.00 (Total cost including Weekend Camp is $534.5)

A second session for teens that want to serve and grow in leadership skills.

LITs may choose to stay a few extra days or begin a few days early with another LIT Weekend Camp.

Why 2 Rates:

YMCA membership is a privilege and Member Rates are for any person/family who is a member of a YMCA that honors the AWAY program as well as members of a Tallahassee YMCA branch.

You may also choose to purchase a YMCA Camp Indian Springs Membership for $55 per person/family. this allows you to utilize any YMCA Camp Indian Springs program through out the year at the Member Rate. The Camp membership is valid for one year and only applicable at the YMCA Camp Indian Springs.
