Core Activities

For All Campers

The following activites are the staple parts of camp. Each week participants may choose from this list of activities to specialize in and may also work onwith their cabin group.

Water Sports - Canoeing and kayaking - Another one of camp's most popular activities. A certified lifeguard supervises the activity. Canoeing is held in our natural spring and creek. Campers learn the basics of canoe navigation and safety in a fun and creative program.

Archery - Campers are taught basic target shooting skills with an emphasis on safety and responsibility. A trained instructor teaches the activity on our range. A variety of compound bows are available to meet each camper's needs.

Nature Survival - Campers are taught outdoor living skills in this activity.  Goals for the class are to learn campfire building, tent set-up, orienteering, basic first aid, and other outdoor skills.

Swimming - All campers can participate in swimming in our pool as well as our natural spring that is part of the Wakulla Springs system. All participants must demonstrate swimming skills and are ranked by ability. Every day, campers will be allo

wed to swim in either the pool or fresh water spring. Campers will only be allowed to swim on the deep side of the spring if they have demonstrated strong swimming skills. We even have an occasional class of underwater basket weaving. Certified lifeguards are on watch during all swimming activities.

Team Challenge - Cabin groups have the opportunity to build team work, confidence and trust through a series of activities that require team work to solve as a cabin group and learn about cooperation as well team development.

Field Sports - Campers may also choose to participate in various team activities in a non-competitive environment. Soccer, Volleyball and Ultimate Frisbee are a few of the choices that campers may also enjoy.

Campfire happens on the first and last night of each session. Campers have the oppostunity to come together to share their talents, skits, songs and just enjoy an open fire at our recently renovated campfire circle.

Themed Meal - Meal times are another program area that can not be missed. Themed meals and activites are programmed each day by our dining hall steward. Crazy Hair Day, favorite songs and traditional graces are just a few of the activities in our Dining Hall.

Evening Activities or TwiLight - Each evening after dinner, several traditions that can only happen at YMCA camp occur. Lip Sync, Water Balloon Battleship, Dances, and Spring Regatta are just a few of the types of all camp programs that campers have come to enjoy.

Chapel or Morning Devotions - Each day the entire camp starts off with an examination of the Core Values of YMCA camp. Honesty, Caring, Respect, Responsibility and Faith inspire us to take on the day. Chapels are non-denominaitonal and fun filled.

YMCA Camp Indian Springs will offer opportunities to develop and grow spirit, mind and body by providing positive leadership and encouraging a fun environment through an attitude of service to all.
