Purpose:
The YMCA Christian Leadership Conferences serve to strengthen people in their roles as YMCA leaders. The YMCA Rag/Leather Program is a daily tool that campers, young people, lay people and YMCA leaders can use to grow personally and in their relationship with God.

           History:
           The YMCA Christian Leadership Conference was started in 1974

           as a living memorial for R. Howard Walker.
           Walker was involved in YMCA programs at the Long Beach

           YMCA. When he died in an accident at the age of 22, his parents,

           Mr. & Mrs. Kenneth Walker, asked that memorial gifts be put in

           a fund for YMCA programs with a Christian emphasis.
          

           In 1974, parts of these funds were used for the first Christian

           Leadership Conference which was held at Camp Oaks in

           California.
          

           Because of the success and value of this conference, the Walker

           family decided to help YMCAs across the country start their own

           Christian Leadership Conferences. It is through their funding

           that we are able to have this Conference.

           For nearly 35 years, Christian Leadership Conferences have

           trained day and resident camp leaders, child care workers,

           YMCA staff and volunteers.

A Christian atmosphere is projected without preaching a particular doctrine. Participants work in a variety of settings with trained adult facilitators and YMCA staff. Sharing Christian values and the YMCA Mission in all YMCA programs is emphasized.

This Conference which focuses on day and resident camp is a unique opportunity to put the "C" in the YMCA.

Each participant will receive a t-shirt, CLC manual, a book titled The "C" in YMCA, and an opportunity to receive a Living Bible.

A goal of this conference is to provide an atmosphere where each of us can express our own beliefs without being criticized, and to help us explore ways to integrate Christian principles into our programs.

YMCA Rag/Leather Program:
For over 94 years, the YMCA Rag/Leather Program has been an effective tool in promoting one on one counseling and personal growth.
A special workshop will be held to introduce Rags & Leathers at this years CLC.

YMCA Camp Indian Springs will offer opportunities to develop and grow spirit, mind and body by providing positive leadership and encouraging a fun environment through an attitude of service to all.
